OUR STORY
ESTABLISHED IN 1989
In February 1989, after the late Rev R.V. Selvanayagam completed his 4-year theological studies in Hawaii, the Lord burdened him to return to his homeland, Singapore, to start Lighthouse Baptist Church. He and his wife, Mary Sim, were then commissioned and sent out by Lanakila Baptist Church in Waipahu, Hawaii.
Through God’s divine guidance, another work was started in, Johor, West Malaysia, in 1990. It first started as regular bible studies conducted by Pastor Selva and his wife every Sunday afternoon. Today Lifegate Independent Baptist Church, Johor Bahru is an independent organisation under the leadership of Pastor Eric Choy.
Lighthouse Baptist Church also started a Filipino ministry in 2008. Today it is known as Asian Grace Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Napoleon Cajipe.​​Pastor Selva was called home to be with the Lord in July 2014.“Faithful is He that calleth you, who also will do it.” – I Thessalonians 5:24
IN SERVICE TODAY
Born and raised in Lighthouse Baptist Church, Pastor Sean Yong was saved at 7 and baptised by the late Pastor Selva at 9 years old.​ Previously a professional Social Worker by training, Pastor Sean, who mentored under Pastor Ter Yin Ho and Pastor Nap Cajipe, was called and surrendered to serve the Lord in full-time ministry at 33 and eventually called to the Pastorate at 35.
Pastor Sean also teaches in the Youth and Young Adults Sunday school classes, conducts discipleship lessons, and preaches regularly to the congregation at Lighthouse Baptist Church, amongst other pastoral and administrative roles.​Besides being the Pastor at Lighthouse Baptist Church, Pastor Sean is also both a husband to his wife, Mariann, and father to their son, Mitchel, who support him in serving the Lord.
His simple desire is, “..that the lost would come to the knowledge and salvation of the Lord Jesus Christ, and that the saved may grow in spiritual maturity and truth of God’s Word.”​Pastor Sean has been serving as Interim Pastor at LBC since August 2023.
